We offer both red iron heavy steel buildings for larger, wide span structures like warehouses and industrial buildings and also cold-formed light gauge steel buildings for smaller, more budget-friendly buildings such as residential projects or small commercial buildings. Below are some pros and cons for each building type to help you decide. If you need help deciding which one is right for your project, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to talk to you more about these options and guide you through the process.

Pros and Cons for each type:

RED IRON STEEL BUILDING

PROS:

  • With proper care and maintenance this type of building is designed to last 50-100 years or more
  • Offers superior strength and durability for heavy loads and large spans
  • Structure will require fewer frame lines
  • Ideal building type for large industrial or crane buildings
  • Provides superior strength against high winds, heavy snow loads, and seismic activity
  • Does not expand, warp, or crack when exposed to moisture. Not susceptible to termites, mold, or rot
  • Fire-resistant and non-combustible

CONS:

  • Requires heavy equipment to install
  • Requires more substantial foundation to support the heavy steel point loads
  • Not the most cost-effective option for small residential buildings

COLD-FORMED STEEL BUILDING

PROS:

  • With proper care and maintenance this type of building is designed to last 50-100 years or more
  • More cost effective for the right application than red iron buildings due to lower fabrication costs and installation requirements
  • Lighter material that can be installed by fewer workers potentially lowering labor costs and installation timeline
  • Requires less concrete in the foundation and less complex foundation design
  • Can withstand extreme environmental and seismic loads, including high winds and earthquakes
  • Does not expand, warp, or crack when exposed to moisture. Not susceptible to termites, mold, or rot
  • Fire-resistant and non-combustible

CONS:

  • Limitations to building sizes that make this material better suited for smaller, residential projects or small commercial buildings
  • Requires more frame lines and has less capabilities for added weight and spans
  • Knee braces and apex braces can obstruct interior space

Disclaimer: The online builder may not show the exact limitations and capabilities of the building design and structural limitations. Once the design has been submitted our sales team will review your design and follow up with you directly to provide you with pricing and details for your project.

Rodzina Building Systems does not provide financing options, building installation, or the concrete pad required for your project. Check with your local building erector and concrete contractor to price these additional items. We will provide the framed openings for your overhead doors and roll-up doors, but we do not provide these items. Overhead doors, roll-up doors, and insulation must be purchased separately from your own supplier. We offer options for metal walk doors and windows that can be found in the "Our Products" drop-down list. Some prices will not be reflected on the Online Designer pricing and will only be received once we are able to discuss your needs for your project further.
